HISTORY, ACHIEVEMENTS, AND CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

OF THEORY AND METHODOLOGY OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Commencement of operations

By the decision of the State Academic Council of Ukraine dated June 20, 2000 (protocol No. 27), Chernivtsi National University was issued a license to conduct educational activities in the direction 0101 “Pedagogical Education” for the training of specialists in the specialty 010103 “Pedagogy and Methodology of Secondary Education. Physical Culture”.

In connection with this decision, by the order of the university No. 71 dated November 13, 2000, the Department of Physical Education was withdrawn from the general university subordination and was assigned to the pedagogical faculty, the department became a graduating department.

By the order of the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University dated December 25, 2002 No. 118 in implementation of the decision of the Academic Council of the university dated December 12, 2002 (protocol No. 10), the Department of Physical Education was reorganized from January 2, 2003 into two separate departments:

According to the order of the Chernivtsi National University No. 122 dated 01.09.2008, the following changes have taken place: In accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education", the Regulations on a State Educational Institution, the Statute of the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, in order to effectively use scientific and pedagogical personnel, educational, laboratory and production facilities and in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the University dated August 31, 2008, Protocol No. 6, from September 1, 2008, the Faculty of Physical Culture and Human Health was established and in accordance with the order of the University No. 112 dated 01.09.2008, the Department of Human Health, Recreation and Fitness was established within the faculty.

 Until August 1, 2016, the Department of Human Health, Recreation and Fitness trained bachelors in the direction of 6.010203 “Human Health” and specialists and masters in the specialty 7.01020303, 8.01020303 “Fitness and Recreation”

Starting from August 1, 2016, the department was renamed the Department of Physical Education and Health Fundamentals, as a graduating specialty 014.11 Secondary Education. Physical Education educational degree:

Classical forms of education – lectures, laboratory, practical and seminar classes are supplemented by various forms of individual work with students, classes on sports pedagogical improvement.

The department works on improving educational and methodological work. Methodological seminars are constantly held, at which the educational and working programs developed by teachers, textbook brochures, lecture course texts, plans of seminar and practical classes and materials of educational and methodological support according to the requirements of ECST are discussed.

During the study, students undergo educational practices, a winter camp in the village of Vorokhta and a hiking trip to the top of the Ukrainian Carpathians in the city of Hoverla. The teachers of the department manage the scientific and research work of students, various types of educational and pedagogical practice, which is carried out in certain basic general educational institutions of the city of Chernivtsi. All types of practice are provided with methodological materials contained in the cross-curricular program of pedagogical practice of the specialty 014.11 Secondary education "Physical Culture".

The educational process has been implemented with a distance learning system on the Goole MEET, MOODLE platforms, which provides for learning using electronic resources, activation of students' independent work, and extensive virtual support for their learning. The implementation of the capabilities of technical and software tools of modern information and communication technologies allows accumulating and using knowledge, organizing various forms of activity for independent information search, ensuring the development of the student's intellectual potential, and implementing the ideas of personality-oriented learning.

Based on the decision of the Academic Council of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University dated November 4, 2024, in order to reflect the content of training for applicants of the first and second levels of higher education, the Department of Physical Culture and Fundamentals of Health was renamed the DEPARTMENT OF THEORY AND METHODOLOGY OF PHYSICAL CULTURE.
